Abstract

This paper deals with the relationship between two politicians in the period from 1935, when parliamentary elections were held in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, to the beginning of the Second World War in the country, in 1941. Based on the materials from the archives and memoirs, the paper traces the role of Dragoljub Jovanović, a politician and a university professor, as a mediator between the opposition in Serbia and Vlatko Maček, the leader of Croatian Peasant Party after the death of Radić, in the period before, during and after the parliamentary elections in 1935. and 1938. There were ups and downs in the relationship between the two politicians, especially after the formation of Banovina Hrvatska at the end of August, 1939. The beginning of the Second World War in Yugoslavia took them to different sides which cut off their contact.
