Abstract

The article raises the problem of interpretation of political media events, the solution of which specifies the degree of the influence on the mass consciousness of native speakers. The article carries out a comparative analysis of models of interpretation of political media events in professional and everyday media discourse. The comparative analysis of media event interpretation in a media text and in an everyday text will help reveal their common and distinct features and the determinability of everyday interpretation by the information field of the media event. The study is performed on the borderline between political linguistics, media linguistics and interpretive linguistics. The interpretation model is considered as an invariant scenario of development of the media event in discourse, in which case discourse is defined as a polytext formation represented by a set of texts devoted to the same event. The political media event Crash of the Ukrainian Boeing in Tehran is chosen as a unit of analysis. The study has revealed that the professional media discourse actualizes a propositional - frame model of interpretation, which structures the media event in the linguistic consciousness of native speakers with certain slots representing certain propositional meanings, significant for the event coverage in the media. And the everyday media discourse actualizes the propositional model of the media event interpretation, which objectifies the propositional meanings, significant for the native speakers. The author draws the following conclusion: despite the identity of the mechanisms of the interpretation process aimed at actualization of the political media event in the professional and everyday media discourse, the perlocutionary effect of the media text is not determined by its illocutionary constituent; their correlation can be described as a relationship between two independent interpretation models. The research outcomes may be used in media linguistics, cultural linguistics, and mediology.
