Abstract
The author collates information about institutions which do recognize and reward teaching. To illuminate local discussion on good teaching she asked on the SEDA (Staff and educational development association) and staff development mailbase networks what criteria these institutions were using to define excellence. An item bank collates criteria from a range of institutions newer and older in United Kingdom and others countries.
