Abstract

New nanostructured nanomaterials were proposed for the design of stochastic sensors used for the assay of different tumor biomarkers. The new designed stochastic sensors were very sensitive, and present low determination limits, which made possible early detection of cancer in asymptomatic patients. The advantages of using of such tools for screening of biological fluids were: fast screening - the results being available within minutes; no sample preparation required - the biological fluid being used as taken from patients; very high sensitivities and low determination limits; low cost of screening test compared with ELISA method; high reliability for both qualitative and quantitative assay of cancer biomarkers; early detection of cancers was possible due to the very low limit of determination of the stochastic sensors.. The reliability of such microsensors allowed them to be used as point-of-care tools.
