Abstract

In the framework of a pesticide reduction program in Flanders, a pesticide risk indicator was developed in order to be able to evaluate pesticide reduction measures taken in some major crops. The pesticide occupational and environmental risk (POCER) indicator, based on Annex VI of the European Directive 91/414/EC, consists of ten modules reflecting the risk for persons arising from occupational, non-dietary exposure and the risk to the environment. For each module, risk is expressed as a dimensionless value between 0 and 1. The values for the ten modules can be considered individually or can be summed in order to describe the total risk of a pesticide to humans and the environment.
