Abstract

During the last few years, the literature has been enriched with several cases of pneumatosis of the intestinal tract with new opinions regarding its possible aetiology. These cases were of the more common cystic variety and the majority of them cases of the small bowel. We are reporting this case as it represents a less frequent type of colonic pneumatosis intestinalis of the diffuse linear type. While our case was not proven surgically, it was radiologically and clinically so typical that there is no doubt as to the diagnosis. For this case, we use the title “Pneumatosis Intestinalis” with the exclusion of the word “cystoides” because in our case there was no significant cyst formation and gas was diffusely distributed between the layers of the intestinal wall.
