Abstract

The influence of cold plasma on the efficiency of production of endohedral fullerenes and the mechanism of endohedral fullerene formation are discussed. For the first time, it was shown experimentally that the nucleation of the endohedral element in the carbon cage takes place in the last stage of the fullerene evolution process (annealing). A plasma-coupled radio frequency induction furnace was examined for the synthesis of scandium endohedral fullerenes. The separation and characterization of the Sc4C2@C80 are reported.
