Abstract

In article number 2001085, Orlando J. Rojas and co-workers report on plant-based hydrogels derived from plants, a multiscale and hierarchical source of nanomaterials, considering water interactions, hydration, and swelling. They expand on the design and synthesis of sustainable and functional hydrogels, considering fluid transport, diffusion, capillarity, and ionic effects, and their relation to porous structures (foams, sponges, cryogels, xerogels, and aerogels).
