Abstract

Clinically cysts found within the hypophysea l fossa occur mos t c o m m o n l y as the result of degeneration within a p i tu i ta ry adenoma. Intrasel lar cysts lined by a single layer of epithelium and large enough to give rise to signs and s y m p t o m s are very infrequent. Clinically they m a y be indistinguishable f rom chromophobe pituit a ry adenomas. The limited number of cases t ha t have been reported is insufficient to clarify the symptoma to logy and they were not followed long enough to determine the prognosis with cysts of this type.
