Abstract

Incised valley sandstones are common hydrocarbon targets in south‐central Alberta. An example is the Countess/Alderson trend which extends over 70 miles and contains 122 pools that have produced 100 million b/o and 300 billion ft3 gas (Figure 1). However, drilling 3-D seismic anomalies over these incised valleys occasionally produces disappointing results. This article describes a post‐drill analysis of one example.
