Abstract

A phytochemical investigation on the peeled stem of Syringa pinnatifolia Hemsl. led to the isolation and structural identification of one new sesquiterpenoid, alashanoid J (1), five triterpenoids (2–6), two lignans (7 and 8), and two other phenolic constituents (9 and 10). The structure of alashanoid J was elucidated by MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data analysis, and the known compounds were determined on the basis of NMR and MS analysis and literature comparison with those in literature. The discovery of these constituents confirmed the current taxonomic division of this species under the level of genus Syringa.
