Abstract

A walking guidance system with FM wave information was developed for the visually impaired people. Low powered transmitters are introduced to the system which is operated with a solar battery for sending information to portable radios. In order to evaluate this system, experiments were conducted by cooperation with the visually impaired. Their performance and physiological indices were observed during the experiments. A questionnaire about their background was also conducted and analyzed by HAYASHI-III so that subjects were divided into three groups. The objective physiologic indices were obtained though the experiment in order to measure their psychological condition. Besides, the information sent from the system was verified after the experiments. As a result, the information was ascertained to be effective for the visually impaired.
