Abstract

A new species in the genus Asobara Foester, (Braconidae: Alysiinae), Asobara rotundata sp. nov., is described and illustrated. In addition, we used the barcode region of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI), cytochrome c oxidase II (COII), cytochrome c (Cyt b), NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (ND1), and D2 region of the 28S nuclear gene (28S rDNA) to analyze the phylogeny of the available Korean Asobara species and identify a new species. These molecular analyses indicated that A. rotundata sp. nov. was recovered independently from the other Asobara species. Our results support that Asobara japonica occupies the most basal position of this genus and is a sister clade of other Asobara species. This also indicated that A. leveri is a sister clade to the A. rossica clade. An identification key for the Asobara species recorded in Korea is provided.
