Abstract

AbstractA study of 105 patients with phrynoderma revealed the usual clinical feature—follicular keratotic papules at the elbows and knees. In severe cases, the papules might extend to the forearm, thigh, chest, back and abdomen; the face, hands, feet, and genito‐anal area were not involved. Only 3% of cases had serum vitamin A levels lower than normal. The most common histologic findings are normo‐ or hypergranulosis and retained parakerotic cells within the follicular plug. These histologic features differentiate phrynoderma from keratosis pilaris.
