Abstract

Abstract The lack of clean drinking water was a serious issue in many areas of Kerala during the flood. According to the Kerala migration survey (KMS), 90% of water supply in Malappuram was affected as around 31 schemes stopped functioning due to power failure and flood and around 60% water supply was affected in Palakkad and Kozhikode. People were depending upon bottled water at that time. Here lies the importance of this project. Most of the current technologies available are expensive and consume electricity. The use of chemical processing mechanisms is an affordable solution, but it is hazardous if used improperly. With an idea of sustainability, we plan to develop a water purification system that is solely powered by the sun. Impure water is purified using filters followed by five stages of purification. By using both reverse osmosis and ultraviolet radiation purification techniques, our goal is to produce water which is highly purified for drinking purpose. We use a photovoltaic panel to collect the sunrays to charge the battery. This battery will power the ultraviolet purification and water pump.
