Abstract

The “elastic” photo-production of charged pions from nuclei with one nucleon outside the closed shell or sub-shell is investigated. Explicit expressions have been obtained for the cross-sections of such reactions and numerical computation has been carried out in the simple case 29Si14(γ, π−)29P15. The Chew-Low amplitude for the photo-production from free nucleons has been used for calculational purposes using (a) free nucleon magnetic moments and (b) the actual magnetic moments within the nuclei.
