Abstract
Phosphorus-containing vinyl esters and vinyl carbamates were synthesized as new biocompatible and degradable photopolymers. Reactivity of the monomers with one, two, and three polymerizable double bonds was evaluated by photo-differential scanning calorimetry. With respect to their potential application in the biomedical field, studies on cytotoxicity, mechanical stability, and hydrolytic erosion behavior of the poly(vinyl alcohol)-based derivatives were performed. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
