Abstract

In this article the photophysics of an alkaloid harmaline in acetonitrile-water and dimethyl sulfoxide-water mixtures were reported. Depending on the amount of water present in these two mixtures the microstructure of these binary mixtures changes. The photophysics of harmaline was modulated in the binary mixtures with change in the mole fraction of water in the mixture. We have observed interesting changes in the photophysical properties of harmaline in these binary mixtures. Here, our aim is to see whether photophysical properties of harmaline can be useful to observe the structural heterogeneity present in these two binary mixtures.
