Abstract

Bis(8-hydroxyquinolates) Nickel (Niq2) was deposited with Physical Vapor Deposition technique as thin film in order to study its linear and nonlinear optical properties. The surface morphology was analyzed with Atomic Force Microscopy, the film has a homogenous and flat morphology. The absorption was measured with the UV–visible spectroscopy, two absorption bands were obtained. The obtained energy gap is 2.7 eV. The photoluminescence measurement at room temperature shows a high emission intensity in the visible range while the intensity of luminescence decreases at low temperature (77 K − 300 K). The nonlinear optical properties were investigated via Third harmonic generation measurements. The Kubodera and Kobayashi comparative model was used to calculate the third order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3). A typical behavior of an OLED could be obtained with the I-V measurements of the p-n junction ITO/Niq2/TPD. With DFT/UB3LYP method, HOMO-LUMO energy gap, Absorption spectrum and second order hyperpolarizability were calculated.
