Abstract

The possibility of using the phase shift of the photoacoustic signal of different constituents as an alternative tool for depth profile analysis of layered samples is discussed. The method proposed is experimentally demonstrated by measuring the phase variations of the photoacoustic-detected magnetic resonance of a sample consisting of a computer tape bonded to an aluminium foil. The experimental data are found to be in very good agreement with the theoretical predictions based upon the simple one-dimensional thermal piston model.
