Abstract

A phenomenological model of the lattice dynamics of hcp metals has been developed by adding a modified Sharma-Joshi electron-ion interaction term to a five neighbour central pair potential. The equilibrium condition derived from the potential system is shown to agree with the rotational invariance condition for the system. The model has been used to study phonon dispersion in Y and Tb and is found to give reasonably good agreement with the experimental dispersion curves.
