Abstract: This article adopts Antoine Berman's concepts of the translator's 'position', 'project' and 'horizon' to compare two translations of Ingeborg Bachmann's Malina by Philip Boehm. My analysis shows that the first translation, published in 1990, highlights the novel's roots in the Austrian intellectual and literary tradition but overlooks Bachmann's protofeminist voice. Boehm's 2019 retranslation attends to Malina's politics and stylistics; his strategies complement Bachmann's aesthetics and accentuate the novel's work of mourning. Both target texts reflect collective and individual factors: they react to contemporaneous ideologies, align with their decades' approaches to Bachmann, as well as illustrating how Boehm's position and practice evolved. Abstract: In dem Aufsatz werden Antoine Bermans Konzepte der 'Position', des 'Projekts' und des 'Horizonts' des Übersetzers herangezogen, um Philip Boehms zwei Übersetzungen von Ingeborg Bachmanns Malina zu vergleichen. Meine Analyse zeigt, dass die erste Übersetzung (1990) die Wurzeln des Romans in der intellektuellen und literarischen Tradition Österreichs hervorhebt, doch Bachmanns protofeministische Stimme übersieht. Boehms Neuübersetzung (2019) wendet sich Malinas Politik und Stilistik zu; seine Strategien ergänzen Bachmanns Ästhetik und heben die Trauerarbeit des Romans hervor. Beide Zieltexte spiegeln kollektive und individuelle Faktoren wider: Sie reagieren auf zeitgenössische Ideologien, orientieren sich an der Sichtweise ihres jeweiligen Jahrzehnts in Bezug auf Bachmann und veranschaulichen, wie sich Boehms Position und Praxis entwickelt haben.
