Abstract

Total and free serum phenytoin concentrations and net phenytoin removal were examined in two stable patients (henceforth referred to as patient D.K. and patient C.L.) receiving therapeutic plasmapheresis for myasthenia gravis at Mercy Hospital. Similar serum determinations were obtained on the days prior to and after plasmapheresis in order to determine if a single patient plasma volume exchange replaced isovolumetrically with a 4.0 g% albumin solution would significantly alter serum concentrations of phenytoin.
