Abstract

The Scytalopus magellanicus tutu in Yagan language is an endemic bird species of generalist habitat. The plumage of the adult specimen is generally gray slate. In juvenile specimens, the plumage varies between cinnamon-brown with touches of gray and brown plumage with dark spots as described by other authors. We postulate that the S. magellanicus in Navarino Island should be another species of the genus Scytalopus. We found out that the plumage of the juvenile S. magellanicus is different from other specimens of the same species in other latitudes in Chile.
