Abstract
The paper presents the characteristics of conversion in Vietnamese and English according to different kinds of conversion (between nouns and verbs, nouns and adjectives, verbs and adjectives; nouns and function words, verbs and function words), and according to two types of conversion which are complete conversion (zero derivation) and approximate conversion. The paper also presents some ways of teaching conversionwords based on comparing the similarities and differences of the phenomenon conversion between English and Vietnamese.

Với danh từ và động từ, tính từ ít có khả năng chuyển loại hơn. Phần lớn tính từ chuyển loại chủ yếu ở dạng này là tính từ biểu thị phẩm chất, đặc điểm của người, vật, hiện tượng được dùng để biểu thị danh từ chỉ người, vật, hiện tượng có phẩm chất hoặc đặc điểm đó. Ở ví dụ (8), cố tri[1] là tính từ chỉ quen biết thân thiết từ lâu.
