Abstract

In this study (liquid + liquid) equilibrium (LLE) data were measured at 298.15 K under atmospheric pressure for the {water + 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (TMP) + dibutyl ether (DBE)} ternary system, and the (water + ethanol + TMP + DBE) and (water + 2-propanol + TMP + DBE) quaternary systems. The experimental LLE data show good correlations with the modified and extended UNIQUAC models. The solubility of alcohol and TMP in the aqueous and organic phases is represented by an equilibrium distribution coefficient calculated from the LLE data. The influence of different alkyl groups on the solubility of alcohols in liquid phases is discussed.
