Abstract
Either the Radiation Protection Committee of the British Institute of Radiology is missing the point (Langmead and Farmer 1971), or I am way off base in my interpretation of personnel monitoring in diagnostic radiology (Bushong, Harle and Pogonowska, 1970; Bushong, 1970). All will agree that there are numerous reasons for conducting a personnel monitoring programme and some of these have been previously discussed (Langmead and Farmer 1971; Bushong et al., 1970; Bushong, 1970; Macht and Katz, 1952; Jones, 1968; Langmead, 1961; Spalding and Cowing, 1962). The Health Physics Society (1968) recently identified the primary reasons for a personnel monitoring programme.
