Abstract
This chapter uses an evolution-centered approach to provide a framework through which the relationship between personality and various forms of supernatural and religious belief, or the lack thereof, can be better understood. Studies on the evolution of religion have for the most part ignored individual differences and focused on the human universals. This chapter will present some of the most prominent evolutionary explanations of personality differences in hopes of providing a more nuanced conceptualization of the mechanism of religion’s evolution.
