Abstract

One of the main occupational factors of switchyard and overhead power lines is the power frequency electric field. The most optimal method provides safe occupational conditions (power frequency electric field levels lower maximum permissible) is using personal protective equipment. The aim of the research was personal protective equipment screening efficiency assessment under various work conditions. Two methods were used: indirect IEC 60895-2002 method measuring currents and direct GOST 12.4.172-2019 method measuring power frequency electric field strength. Screening efficiency assessment was carried out on two high-voltage laboratory test setup and in real work conditions on switchyard using human body phantoms. Data analysis showed high sensitivity of IEC 60895-2002 method in the case vertical position of human body phantom, and less sensitivity this method in the case horizontal position compared to the direct method. There were significant differences between screening factors were measured by two methods. Research results confirm screening factor changing to 60 dB in new GOST 12.4.172-2019 to comply with international requirements.
