Abstract

1. Patients with dental arches that have been mutilated by the loss of teeth require complete dental care. A treatment plan beginning with periodontal therapy should attempt to restore and maintain health of the dental organs, in terms of both structure and function. 2. Periodontal principles relating to the crown and bridge prosthodontic patient have been discussed. Oral physiotherapy, occlusal equilibration, periodontal surgery, and splinting are among the major therapeutic measures requiring integration into the broad spectrum of crown and bridge prosthodontics. Since the ultimate success of restorative dentistry is dependent upon the health status of the periodontium and vice versa, numerous benefits are afforded the dental practitioner who integrates a sound, workable, periodontal philosophy into a discriminating regime of oral rehabilitation.
