Abstract

An educational approach to incite Electrical Engineering students consists in the formulation of a problem that connects the theory seen in class with a practical application, in order to elaborate a project, using the Problem- Based Learning (PBL) as teaching methodology. In the present paper the results of a perimeter monitoring system project, which used a ZigBee network for the communication between modules, an Intel Galileo board for the system management and the LabVIEW language to create a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) are shown. At the end of the project, the students attained an integrated and consolidated view of the various issues discussed along the undergraduate course, since it uses concepts from other subjects that have been learned or were being learned in parallel with the Electronic Instrumentation course, in the Electrical Engineering Undergraduate at IFPB, in Brazil.
