Abstract

Phase-shaped binary transmission (PSBT) is known to be an attractive modulation format in system with no inline dispersion compensation because of its resilience to chromatic dispersion. We show that the phased amplitude-shift signaling alternate-block-inversion (PASS-ABI) modulation format has a more compact spectrum and higher dispersion tolerance than PSBT while requiring similar transmitter complexity.
