Sultan Kudarat. Simple random sampling was used to determine the respondents, including 396 selected residents from three (3) barangays who had experienced administrative staff services from the selected barangays in Tacurong City. The researchers utilized adapted survey questionnaires to collect data on the demographic profile and level of administrative staff performance in the research locale. As for the demographic profile, most of the respondents were female, with 222 (56%) aged between 18-23 years old with a frequency of 93 (23%), and residents of Barangay Poblacion, Tacurong City with 147 (37%). Furthermore, the administrative staff determined their performance through job knowledge, teamwork, communication, leadership, and decision-making. In terms of job knowledge, respondents described it as "Excellent" (M=3.54). Followed by Leadership and Decision Making with 3.48 rated as "Excellent," and Teamwork and Communication with the lowest section mean of 3.43, described as "Excellent," respectively. The performance level of administrative staff got the grand mean of 3.48, described as "Excellent." The performance level of administrative staff shows no significant difference based on gender (p=0.388), indicating similar performance between males and females. However, significant differences were observed based on age (p=0.002) and locality (p=0.000). Younger staff (18–23 years old) demonstrated the highest performance, and staff from San Pablo and New Isabela outperformed those from Poblacion. Barangay San Pablo and New Isabela show high and consistent performance across all areas—job knowledge, teamwork, and leadership—indicating strong administrative capabilities. In contrast, Poblacion has the lowest scores, suggesting a need for improvement through training and development.

  • Fareed M Guiapal + 2 more

Multiculturalism is increasingly shaping contemporary societies, yet food, a fundamental human necessity, often becomes a point of cultural and belief-based contention. The halal food industry has grown significantly, garnering support both locally and internationally. However, this burgeoning sector faces challenges related to establishing standardized regulations that acknowledge its role in nation-building and promote cultural diversity. This study aimed to assess the awareness and acceptance of pre-certified halal food among non-Muslim students across secondary schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. Employing a descriptive survey research design, the study utilized a researcher-developed questionnaire administered to 350 students selected through simple random sampling from seven identified schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. Findings indicated that despite Lambayong's diverse population, most respondents demonstrated awareness and positive perceptions of pre-certified halal food. However, some community elders and church leaders expressed reservations about allowing younger generations to consume such food. The study also observed that while many vendors and proprietors were Muslim, not all adhered to the practice of wearing hijab (for Muslim women), and some lacked necessary cooking equipment like gloves and hairnets. Furthermore, certain halal establishments were found to have inadequate sanitation and pest control measures. Ultimately, the study concluded that there exists a moderate relationship between respondents' awareness and their acceptance of halal food. Recommendations include schools collaborating with barangay and local government units to monitor the hygiene of nearby restaurants and canteens. Additionally, halal food establishments should prioritize enhancing their sanitation practices and hygiene protocols to ensure compliance and consumer confidence.

Moderating role of employee commitment on the relationship between talent management practices and employee performance in public universities in Western Uganda

  • African Quarterly Social Science Review
  • Jolly Nyesigire Kakkayi + 3 more

The study sought to examine the moderating effect of employee commitment on the relationship between talent management practices and employee performance in public universities in Western Uganda. The study was guided by the Egalitarian Theory of Talent Management, and a cross-sectional research design was adopted in the study. From a population of 1156, a sample size of 320 respondents was obtained in two phases: first, a census was used for the human resource directors and top management since the population was small (12 respondents); then secondly, the Yamane formula was used to calculate the sample size for the university council members and teaching and administrative staff, which yielded a sample of 308 respondents. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the human resource directors and top management, while simple random sampling was used for the council members and teaching and administrative staff. Using structured questionnaires, quantitative data was then collected from the 320 respondents of the two selected public universities (Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Kabale University). Data was then analyzed using structural modeling techniques. The findings revealed that the moderating effect of employee commitment on the relationship between talent management practices and employee performance was not statistically significant for either administrative or academic staff in Ugandan public universities. Specifically, for administrative staff, the interaction effect was not significant (z = -0.268, p = 0.789), although the direct effect of talent management on performance was statistically significant (β = 0.348, z = 2.161, p = 0.031), and the total effect remained strong (β = 0.314, z = 3.684, p < 0.001). This suggests that talent management practices such as attraction, development, retention, and motivation directly improved administrative staff performance, regardless of commitment levels. The study recommended that universities should focus on strengthening talent management initiatives directly, and while fostering employee commitment is important, efforts should prioritize implementing effective attraction, development, motivation, and retention strategies that independently drive performance improvements.

  • Claudia Recanatini + 49 more

BackgroundWe aimed to estimate the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) seroprevalence and describe its determinants and associated symptoms among unvaccinated healthcare workers (HCWs) after the first wave of the pandemic.MethodsHCWs from 13 Dutch hospitals were screened for antibodies against the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 in June-July 2020 and after three months. Participants completed a retrospective questionnaire on determinants for occupational and community exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 experienced since January 2020. The seroprevalence was calculated per baseline characteristic and symptom at baseline and after follow-up. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) for seropositivity were determined using logistic regression.ResultsAmong 2328 HCWs, 323 (13.9%) were seropositive at enrolment, 49 of whom (15%) reported no previous symptoms suggestive of COVID-19. During follow-up, only 1% of the tested participants seroconverted. Seroprevalence was higher in younger HCWs compared to the mid-age category (aOR 1.53, 95% CI 1.07–2.18). Nurses (aOR 2.21, 95% CI 1.34–3.64) and administrative staff (aOR 1.87, 95% CI 1.02–3.43) had a higher seroprevalence than physicians. The highest seroprevalence was observed in HCWs in the emergency department (ED) (aOR 1.79, 95% CI 1.10–2.91), the lowest in HCWs in the intensive, high, or medium care units (aOR 0.47, 95% CI 0.31–0.71). Chronic respiratory disease, smoking, and having a dog were independently associated with a lower seroprevalence, while HCWs with diabetes mellitus had a higher seroprevalence. In a multivariable model containing all self-reported symptoms since January 2020, altered smell and taste, fever, general malaise/fatigue, and muscle aches were positively associated with developing antibodies, while sore throat and chills were negatively associated.ConclusionsThe SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in unvaccinated HCWs of 13 Dutch hospitals was 14% in June-July 2020 and remained stable after three months. A higher seroprevalence was observed in the ED and among nurses, administrative and young staff, and those with diabetes mellitus, while a lower seroprevalence was found in HCWs in intensive, high, or medium care, and those with self-reported lung disease, smokers, and dog owners. A history of altered smell or taste, fever, muscle aches and fatigue were independently associated with the presence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in unvaccinated HCWs.

Abstract 321: Association of Specialist Physician Productivity With Trainee and Staffing Levels in the Veterans Health Administration
  • May 1, 2020
  • Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes
  • Neil M Kalwani + 1 more

Background: The effect of trainee, associate provider, and support staff levels on physician productivity by specialty is unknown. In 2013, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) introduced a program to measure specialist physician productivity at the practice level, defined as the total work Relative Value Units (RVUs) generated by the physicians in a practice divided by the number of clinical full-time equivalents (FTEs) attributed to that practice. Data from this program can be utilized to understand the effect of specialty practice features on physician productivity. Methods: We extracted physician productivity levels and the numbers of trainees, associate providers, administrative support staff, and clinical support staff from fiscal year 2019 workforce reports produced by the VHA Office of Productivity, Efficiency, and Staffing for practices in four representative specialties: cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, and surgery. We used linear regression to identify associations between physician productivity and trainee and staffing levels, adjusting for the complexity group of included practices as some practices do not perform procedures. Results: A total of 122 cardiology, 112 gastroenterology, 118 neurology, and 123 surgery practices with at least 0.5 clinical FTE were included. Physician (practice) productivity ranged from 2153 to 12,497 (mean 6899) RVUs/FTE for cardiology, 1189 to 13,435 (mean 7080) RVUs/FTE for gastroenterology, 1753 to 11,322 (mean 4154) RVUs/FTE for neurology, and 1761 to 8792 (mean 4251) RVUs/FTE for surgery. Physician productivity was positively associated with the number of trainees per clinical FTE for cardiology [coefficient 818 (95% CI 260, 1376) additional RVUs/FTE] and surgery [coefficient 253 (95% CI 56, 451) additional RVUs/FTE] but not for other specialties. Only neurologist productivity was positively associated with the number of associate providers per clinical FTE [coefficient 1095 (95% CI 128, 2061) additional RVUs/FTE]. There were no significant associations between physician productivity and the numbers of administrative and clinical support staff per clinical FTE. Conclusion: There is significant variation in VHA physician productivity across practices within each specialty. Physician productivity is positively associated with the number of trainees in a practice for some specialties, including cardiology, suggesting that trainees in those specialties may enhance physician productivity. The relationship between physician productivity and trainee and associate provider ratios varies by specialty. These specialty-specific associations can inform efforts to improve VHA physician productivity.

  • Frinces Joy T Apolinario

Job satisfaction and job performance are critical determinants of effectiveness in law enforcement organizations, directly influencing operational efficiency, personnel well-being, and public trust. This study examined the levels of job satisfaction and job performance among personnel of the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO), Philippines, and identified challenges affecting these outcomes as a basis for an institutional action plan. A concurrent mixed-methods research design was employed, integrating quantitative survey data and qualitative interview findings. A total of 299 police personnel were selected through simple random sampling. Quantitative data were gathered using a validated survey questionnaire measuring job satisfaction in terms of operational and administrative accomplishments and job performance across six dimensions: output, job knowledge, work management, interpersonal relationships, concern for the organization, and personal qualities. Qualitative data were obtained through key informant interviews to explore challenges encountered by personnel. Results indicated a consistently high level of job satisfaction among LUPPO personnel, supported by strong operational engagement, effective crime prevention initiatives, administrative support mechanisms, recognition systems, and welfare programs. Job performance was rated as excellent across all evaluated dimensions by both commissioned and non-commissioned officers. Qualitative findings revealed persistent challenges, including limited training opportunities in later years, logistical and resource constraints, and emotional fatigue resulting from sustained operational demands. These findings underscore the importance of organizational support, ethical leadership, and performance-oriented management in law enforcement institutions. Thus, the study concludes that sustaining high job satisfaction is essential for maintaining excellent job performance in policing organizations. It recommends strengthening continuous training programs, communication and innovation competencies, wellness initiatives, and performance-based recognition systems to enhance organizational effectiveness and personnel resilience.
