Abstract
The aim of our project is to investigate the rate of tool wear in machining SS316L using Ni/Nano SiC coated tool insert. The coating of tool insert is done using Pulse Electro Deposition (PED) technique. The experiment is conducted by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The process parameters are taken through literature review and the results of tool wear is obtained. Toolmakers microscope is used for measuring the wear rate of tools. Mathematical model is derived to predict the tool wear during turning process. From the results obtained the tool wear is plotted against tool parameters such as rake angle (α) and nose radius (r), machining parameters such as spindle speed (N) and feed rate (Z). The optimal levels of process parameters have been obtained for minimal tool wear.
