Abstract

This article discusses the general approach of objective and subjective evaluations on digitally compressed video. After a brief review of digital compression principles, the artifacts associated with video compression are identified, along with their origins. In addition, some new objective test signals and measurement methods are presented, and the application of these methods for assessment of compressed video is discussed
