Abstract
High effectiveness heat exchangers are employed in most cryogenic systems. In some systems such as cryocoolers employed in space, the NTU of the heat exchangers employed is quite large. The effectiveness of all such exchangers is largely controlled by the longitudinal heat conduction through the walls. In this paper, we present a closed form expression for the effectiveness of very high NTU counterflow heat exchangers.
