Abstract

The paper compares performance of different modulation formats for 16-channel wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) with transmission speed of 10 Gbit/s per channel. Non return to zero (NRZ), return to zero (RZ), carrier suppressed RZ (CSRZ), duobinary (DB), NRZ differential phase shift keying (NRZ DPSK), RZ-DPSK and CSRZ-DPSK formats are compared to evaluate their performance for the selected transmission network topology. Simulation results are obtained in the environment of OptSim software. It is shown that DB and CSRZ-DPSK formats yield the better performance achieving, respectively, maximal reach equal to 100 and 97 km.
