Abstract

The nanomaterials based transformer oil can be considered as next-generation insulation fluids because they offer exciting new possibilities to enhance dielectric breakdown voltage as well as heat transfer performance compared to pure transformer oils. Transformer oil (TOL) is a liquid dielectric which acts as an insulating medium as well as coolant. A colloidal mixture of nano-sized particles in base fluid is called nanofluids. Nanofluids are prepared by mixing the nanomaterials for different volume concentrations with TOL as base fluid. Nanofluids are significant potential heat transfer fluids with enhanced thermo physical properties can be applied in many devices for better performances. Nanofluids play an important role in cooling of transformer oil, engine cooling, in nuclear reactor, defense and space. Our effort focused on increasing dielectric breakdown voltage of transformer oil-based nanofluids with different volume concentrations of nanoparticles.
