Abstract

The adsorption of perchlorate anion at the Hg/perchloric acid and Hg/perchloric acid + tetraethylammonium perchlorate interphases has been analysed. A correct thermodynamic treatment, accounting for the activities in solution, has been used to obtain the relative surface excesses from differential capacity measurements. The adsorption of perchlorate anion in both interphases is analysed in view of some adsorption isotherm studies. We demonstrate that the perchlorate adsorption isotherm parameters at the Hg/HClO 4 interphase, can be used to analyse the perchlorate adsorption isotherm in the presence of tetraethylammonium(TEA) ions.
