Abstract

ABSTRACT Measuring height from one point to another can use a ruler or tape measure. In some cases, the use of this meter is not effective, for example to determine the depth of the sea, it will be very difficult to use this meter. The problem of this research is how to design a height measuring instrument with a sound sensor (PING)? The purpose of this research is to make a height measuring device using ultrasonic sensors and has a sound output. The research method consists of two stages, namely the design of hardware and software. The results of the research on the measurement of height with 10 people as objects obtained a difference of 1 cm to 2 cm, while measurements with flat objects and made 5 times the measurement obtained different differences, ranging from a difference of 10 cm, 5 cm, 2 cm and reached accuracy The output from this ultrasonic sensor is processed using the ATmega8535 microcontroller into data and can be read using a display device in the form of an LCD and can be heard through a speaker. The error generated by the PING sensor is around 0% - 0.016%. Measurement of the angle of the ultrasonic wave emission obtained special angles, namely 15 degrees to 45 degrees. Measurements on objects that are taken 5 times the measurement get a difference of 0% to 21%. Keywords: height measurement tool, sound sensor, ATmega8535, speaker.
