  • Mara Indar Pramesti + 2 more

The capital market is a place for individuals or business entities to carry out investment activities, especially in the banking sector, one of the sectors in the LQ45 stock index which is in great demand by investors in Indonesia. In the capital market, one of the investments that can be made is stock investment, but investors will be faced with uncertainty by fluctuations in stock prices caused by several factors, one of which is macroeconomic factors. Therefore, a predictive analysis of stock prices is needed to prevent uncertainty and minimize losses. Accurate prediction models can use deep learning algorithm methods. In the prediction of stock price movements, the data used is historical data on stock prices which is time series type data. This study conducted stock price predictions using the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (biLSTM) method. biLSTM is another variation of the LSTM model. The object of this study uses the variables open, close, adj close, low, high, volume, value, buying rate, selling rate. The data that has been obtained will be preprocessing. Next build a prediction model using hyperparameter tuning with Genetic Algorithm (GA), train the model and evaluate the model. Data testing was carried out using Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) with 4 data from the banking sector in Indonesia including Bank BRI, Bank BNI, Bank BCA, and Bank Mandiri. Based on the data testing that has been carried out, the results of the biLSTM algorithm can predict stock prices accurately because it has a relatively low RMSE value with a MAPE value below 10%.

The impact sporting and financial performance of football clubs on their stock price: an analytical study of European clubs sample listed in the financial market
  • Aug 4, 2022
  • Review of Behavioral Finance
  • Nazar Habeeb Abbas

PurposeThe purpose of this research is to determine the nature of the relationship between sporting, financial performance and a stock price of football clubs by adopting the quarterly financial statements of the European clubs that represent the research sample: Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Lyonnais, which helps clubs’ managers in evaluating the sporting and financial performance effect on the share price at the quarterly level.Design/methodology/approachThe research is performed using the panel data technique, for Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Lyonnais (2007–2016). The sporting performance is represented by the quarterly rate of the number of goals scored by the club to the number of goals scored against it; the quarterly rate of the number of wins to the total number of matches played by the club in local and international competitions. At the same time, financial performance is represented by the quarterly rate of current ratio, the quarterly rate of the leverage ratio, and the quarterly rate of earnings per share (EPS).FindingsThe analysis of the results was distributed at two levels: macro and micro. The analysis at the macro-level dealt with the correlation and influence between the sports performance indicators and the financial performance indicators of the three clubs combined on the share prices of those clubs. The micro-level performance is analyzed separately from the macro analysis. The results indicated that there was an effect on macro analysis. As for the microanalysis, the results showed no effect of the sporting performance of the three clubs on their share price.Research limitations/implicationsThe main implications of this research reveal the weakness of the correlation between the clubs' share price in the financial market, possibly due to the quarterly rate of the data. But there is a slight change for Juventus. There is a moderate correlation between the quarterly sporting performance indicators of this club and the quarterly average of its share price in the market.Practical implicationsThe main implications of this research reveal the weakness of the correlation between the clubs' share price in the financial market, possibly due to the quarterly rate of the data. But there is a slight change for Juventus. There is a moderate correlation between the quarterly sporting performance indicators of this club and the quarterly average of its share price in the market.Social implicationsThe social implications of the current research are clear by dealing with the relationship between the sports and Financial performance of football clubs and its relationship to the price of its shares in the financial market. The success of football clubs in achieving sporting victory attracts more fans. This leads to an increase in the club's profits and consequently to an increase in the price of its shares in the financial markets. Therefore, the societal benefit will be achieved by increasing the enjoyment of the audience and increasing the revenues of the club and the city to which it belongs.Originality/valueThe originality of this research is represented in its use of quarterly data to clarify the relationship between the sporting and financial performance of a sample of European football clubs with the price of its shares in the financial markets. Therefore, this research differs from previous research that used only daily and annual data for clubs to clarify the relationship between their sporting and financial performance.

Tobin’s Q as a Mediating Variable in the Relationship between Financial Ratios and Stock Prices: An Analysis
  • May 27, 2024
  • E-Jurnal Akuntansi
  • Giri Suseno + 3 more

Other sectors of the economy depend on Indonesia's financial industry for liquidity and loans. Therefore, studying the components that influence the value of banking stocks is interesting and important. This study investigates the mediating effect of Tobins's Q on the correlation of Price Earnings Ratio, Price to Book Value, and Earning per Share to Share Price in the Indonesian banking sector. This quantitative research uses the partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method. This study examined 43 banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2019 to 2022 with a total of 172 data for 4 years. Purposive sampling was used by the researchers. Tobin's Q is a positive mediator, although it does not statistically significantly influence EPS and PER on Share Price. In addition, Tobin's Q is also a negative mediator of PBV and Share Price, but not statistically significant. This research has major implications for managerial decision-making, investor tactics, regulatory rules, and future research on stock prices and corporate management.

The Mismatch Between Macroeconomic Stability and Declining Stock Performance of Digital Banks in Indonesia: An Empirical Study of 2022-2023
  • Aug 23, 2024
  • Journal of Islamic Financial Technology
  • Muhammad Arif + 1 more

This study examines the mismatch between macroeconomic stability and the stock performance of digital banks in Indonesia over the period 2022-2023. The results of the analysis show that the USD/IDR exchange rate and Bank Indonesia interest rate have a significant negative effect on stock prices, while inflation shows no significant effect. These findings suggest that despite stable macroeconomic conditions, the share prices of digital banks experienced a significant decline, indicating market inefficiencies. This study makes a theoretical contribution by revealing the role of exchange rate and interest rate fluctuations in influencing the stock performance of digital banks in emerging markets. In conclusion, factors such as investor sentiment, market behavior, and the influence of digital financial technology need to be taken into account in developing strategies to support the stability and growth of the digital banking sector in Indonesia. The results of this study are important for policymakers, regulators, and market participants in dealing with the challenges faced by the digital banking sector in Indonesia. Keywords Digital banking, macroeconomic stability, stock performance, market inefficiency.

Footsie, yeah! Share prices and worker wellbeing
  • Oct 21, 2021
  • Journal of Participation and Employee Ownership
  • Alex Bryson + 2 more

PurposeA small literature has shown that individual wellbeing varies with the price of company stock, but it is unclear whether this is due to wealth effects amongst those holding stock, or more general effects on sentiment, with individuals taking rising stock prices as an indicator of improvements in the economy. The authors contribute to this literature by using two data sets to establish the relationship between share prices on the one hand and worker wellbeing on the other.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the authors use over 20 years of British panel data to show that employee happiness and job satisfaction moves with share prices among those whose pay is partly determined by company fortunes. The authors then examine share price movements and employee stock holding in a single corporation and provide suggestive evidence that an increase in the firm’s stock price increases the well-being of those who belong to its employee share purchase plan (ESPP). These effects are greatest among those making the largest monthly contributions to the program who have the most to gain (or lose) from stock price fluctuations. There is also tentative evidence that the well-being effects of a higher share price are larger for those who hold more shares. Taken together these results suggest that, although stock price movements have little effect on well-being in the population at large, the well-being of those holding stock in their own company rises when the price of that stock is higher, suggesting the effects of share prices work at least partly via changes in wealth.FindingsTaken together these results suggest that the wellbeing effects of share prices work at least partly via changes in wealth.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors cannot be certain that the job satisfaction movements they see are causally linked to share plan participation and bonus receipt. Future research might fruitfully examine the mechanisms at play, and whether the effects identified here are linked to differences in employee motivation and effort over the business cycle.Practical implicationsFirms may wish to consider the appropriateness of linking their workers’ pay to firm performance through share plans or profit shares to establish whether this improves worker wellbeing.Social implicationsThe utility of workers may increase where firms offer some compensation via a share plan or profit share.Originality/valueThe literature suggests a link between share price movements and worker wellbeing, but the reasons for the link are contested. Using two very different data sources, the authors are able to show that share price increases induce higher worker wellbeing, at least in part, through wealth effects.

Investor base, cost of capital, and new listings on the NYSE

Corporate managers often justify certain fairly common corporate practices by describing them as attempts to enlarge their company's investor base. These practices include stock splits, the hiring of shareholder relations officers, meetings with security analysts, the issuance of ADRs, and the listing of their company's shares on major domestic and international stock exchanges. Consider, for example, the news report announcing the decision by Coastal Healthcare to have its shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange: Coastal Healthcare said the listing will "enhance the liquidity of our shares, allow us to diversify our shareholder base, broaden our recognition with the investment community and further enhance shareholder value." (Wall Street Journal, 11/29/94); or this report that accompanied Microsoft's 2-for-1 stock split: Jon Shirley, Microsoft's president and chief operating officer, said the split "reflects the company's desire to make our stock more accessible to a broader base of investors." (Wall Street Journal, 8/4/87); or this report that accompanied the initiation of Sandoz Ltd.'s ADR program: Sandoz Ltd. of Basle, Switzerland, established a sponsored American depositary receipt program to broaden its international shareholder base. (Dow Jones News Wire, 11/07/91). The notion that investor base has an effect on share value has intuitive appeal and is strongly supported by "streetlore." THE EFFECT OF THE RELEVANCE OF THE VALUE OF ACCOUNTING INFORMATION AND GOOD CORPORATE GOVERNANCE ON STOCK PRICES WITH COMPANY SIZE AS A MODERATION VARIABLE
  • Oct 15, 2025
  • International Journal of Accounting, Management, Economics and Social Sciences (IJAMESC)
  • Nurul Ulfa + 2 more

This study aims to empirically investigate the impact of the value relevance of accounting information and Good Corporate Governance (GCG) on the stock prices of Indonesian banking companies. Furthermore, it examines the moderating role of firm size in these relationships within the dynamic context of the post-PSAK 71 regulatory environment. Utilizing a quantitative associative design, this research employs a balanced panel data methodology. The sample consists of 24 banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2024, yielding 120 firm-year observations. Value relevance is proxied by Earnings Per Share (EPS), GCG is measured by a dummy variable reflecting compliance with OJK guidelines, and firm size is measured by the natural logarithm of total assets. The Random Effects Model (REM), selected through Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests, is used for hypothesis testing alongside Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results indicate that the value relevance of accounting information (EPS) has a significant positive effect on stock prices, supporting Signaling Theory. Conversely, Good Corporate Governance (GCG) does not exhibit a significant direct effect on stock prices. Notably, firm size significantly strengthens the relationship between value relevance and stock price. However, it does not moderate the relationship between GCG and stock price. This study provides timely empirical evidence from the Indonesian banking sector following the implementation of PSAK 71. It contributes to the literature by clarifying the contingent role of firm size, demonstrating that it amplifies financial signals but not governance signals, thus offering a nuanced understanding of value relevance and governance in an emerging market context.

This study explores the effects price movements in stocks and its determinants on growth in Nigerian economy. The study in specific terms model’s stock price fluctuations against economic growth and insecurity, exchange rate, interest rate, inflation rate, stock price movement against GDPGR in Nigeria. To achieve the above objectives, the study employs the ex-post facto research design. Quarterly time series data were obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical Bulletins using already available data from 1985 - 2019. The data were analyzed via the aids of econometric techniques such as the descriptive statistics test, the Augmented Dickey-fuller (ADF) unit root test, Correlation matrix and Heteroskedasticity ARCH effect, granger causality, the GARCH (1,1) model and ARDL model for estimations. Findings from the analysis shows price fluctuations had positive and significant effect on growth of the Nigerian Economy. Also, it was opined that insecurity, interest rate, inflation rate, exchange rate, and GDPGR have long-run significant effects on share price volatilities in Nigeria. Finally, it was revealed insecurity, interest rate, inflation, exchange rate and GDPGR have a long-run significant effects on share price fluctuations in Nigeria. On the bases of this finding studies recommended that Authority through its agencies should formulate working document that would stabilize macroeconomic variables and by extension reduce the fluctuation of the stock price as this is required to enhance confidence amongst investors in the market. Also, that the CBN should design and implement policy instruments that would stabilize interest rate to promote significant short run investments and sustain the long run benefits of investments in Nigeria. Government should expedite efforts to reduce the rate of inflations and stabilize the price of goods and services as this promises greater savings and encourages investments which will translate into economic growth. Lastly, policies to tackle cases of corruption in the security framework should be formulated, while the Government should be proactive about its fight against insecurity in Nigeria as this would help stabilize share prices and enhance economic growth in Nigeria.

Stock Prices, Money, Inflation and Real Activity: A Cross-Spectral View

  • Y Sree Rama Murthy

The stock market in India is perceived as playing an important role, especially in the period after 1982. Since then, the financial markets in the Indian Economy are experincing an unprecedented upswing with the corporate sector increasingly turning towards the capital market for fresh finance both in the form of equity issues and debentures, convertible and non-convertible issues. At the same time, in secondary markets, the share prices in general have been increasing rapidly, in comparison to the relatively slow upward thrust in the 70's. It is also argued that the very increase in share prices is encouraging the corporate sector to turn away from commercial and development banks toward, the stock market for finance. Given the increasing levels of investment by the households in shares and the increasing importance of this form of finance for corporations and the catalytic nature of share prices in encouraging savings and investments, concern is being expressed by policy-makers as to whether the share price movements are based on real economic activity or are just speculative froth. The present study attempts to study the stock price-economic activity linkage by choosing a number of variables representing various facets of economic activity like output, income, prices, interest rates, government budgetary operations, savings and money and monetary variables. The study first attempts to trace the possible channels of influence whereby the movements in the pavariable would lead to changes in share prices and then goes on to empirically testing the strength of the relationship and the leads-lags between each variable and stock prices.

The capital market has an important role in supporting economic activities by providing long-term funding sources for companies as well as an investment vehicle for the public. The development of the banking sector in Indonesia shows that financial performance often influences stock price movements, although the results are not always consistent between companies. This problem encourages this study which aims to analyze the effect of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and the Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) on stock prices in banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2020–2024 period. This study uses a quantitative approach with a multiple linear regression method through the assistance of the SPSS application, while the sample is determined by a purposive sampling technique in 16 banking companies over 5 years of observation, resulting in 80 observations. The results of the study show that CAR has a significant negative effect on stock prices (t = -2.482 sig = 0.015), while LDR has a significant negative effect on stock prices (t = -2.846 sig = 0.006). The coefficient of determination (R²) value is 0.162, which means that 16.2% of the variation in stock prices can be explained by CAR and LDR, while the remaining 83.8% is explained by other factors outside the model. This study supports the Signaling Theory which states that financial performance information can provide signals to investors in making investment decisions. This finding confirms that the bank's ability to maintain capital adequacy provides a positive signal to investors, while liquidity management through LDR has not been fully considered as the main factor determining stock prices.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of dividend policy on stock prices in the banking sector in Indonesia during the 2020-2024 period, amid economic uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study is to determine whether dividend policy can affect stock prices, using signal theory which states that dividends serve as a positive signal to investors. This type of research is quantitative with a causal associative approach. The research sample consists of 60 banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and meets certain criteria. The data used is secondary data obtained from annual financial reports, stock prices, and company dividend information and the analysis technique used is simple linear regression. The results showed that the t test results showed a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, thus indicating that dividend policy has a significant effect on stock prices. This study shows that dividend policy acts as a positive signal received by the market and influences investment decisions. Banking companies should consider dividend policy carefully to increase investor confidence and support stock price stability, given the significant effect shown by dividend policy on stock prices in the capital market.

Effect of leverage, firm size, and profitability on systematic risk and its implications on share price
  • Sep 2, 2024
  • Journal of Multidisciplinary Academic Business Studies
  • Putri Yuniesha Nugrahani + 2 more

Purpose: Palm oil plantations are among Indonesia's leading commodities that significantly contribute to the national economy. The fluctuation of stock prices in this subsector has attracted researchers' attention to understand the factors influencing it, including leverage, Firm Size, profitability, and systematic risk. This study aims to analyze the impact of leverage, Firm Size, profitability, and systematic risk on the stock prices of palm oil plantation subsector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2013-2023. Research Methodology: This study utilizes panel data and applies three main regression models, namely the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM), to evaluate the impact of the independent variables on stock prices. Results: The findings indicate that leverage, Firm Size, profitability, and systematic risk do not have a significant impact on stock prices. Specifically, leverage does not have a significant effect on systematic risk or stock prices, Firm Size does not have a significant effect on systematic risk and stock prices, and profitability does not significantly affect systematic risk and stock prices. Systematic risk does not have a significant effect on stock price. There is no significant evidence that systematic risk mediates the impact of leverage, Firm Size, or profitability on stock prices. Limitations: This study is limited to palm oil plantation subsector companies listed on the IDX and the period between 2013 and 2023. External factors, such as macroeconomic conditions, government policies, and environmental factors that might be more significant, have not been deeply analyzed. Contributions: This study contributes to the literature by showing that internal variables such as leverage, Firm Size, and profitability do not always significantly affect stock prices in the context of the palm oil plantation sub-sector in Indonesia.
