Abstract

An Archaeological research has various purposes, one is to direct a historical reconstruction emerge nce and the collaps ing of a dynasty and the other, can also be used to reveal the socio-cultural aspects of a community group in the past. Some problems of social-cultural in the past may be con n ected with some social cultural problems that occcur ed today. The issue to be revealed in this paper is the perception of ancient Javanese people on the meaning of beauty for Javanese women. In this case , the researcher use d the historical-archaeology as a method; this approach seeks an equal combination of “historical” and “archaeological” data to the study of the past. The results of research on Durga statue from Prambanan Temple and Prajnaparamita statue from Singasari temple, East Java seem to represent the perception of beauty for Javanese women during that time.
