Physical and emotional violence has become a serious problem in schools. Teachers are important part of the whole education system, therefore, their insights into school violence are essential to understand the problem. This study aimed to investigate the teachers’ perceptions about the effect of physical and emotional violence on students’ academic performance. A causal-comparative research design based on a cross-sectional survey was used. A self-developed and validated questionnaire was used to measure the level of teachers’ perceptions about physical and emotional violence and its effect on students’ academic performance. The reliability index (Cronbach’s alpha) of the questionnaire was 0.92. All the teachers of the public high schools of Lahore city were the population of the study. A sample of 300 teachers was taken through simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed by applying descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that teachers thought that many practices related to emotional and physical violence had positive effects on students’ performance. Majority of the teachers responded that they had to use many of the practices in order to put students’ attention towards their learning which ultimately improved their performance. Result of correlation analysis also confirmed that teachers’ practices related to physical and emotional violence were positively associated with students’ academic performance. It was also found that the physical and emotional violence was a significant predictor of students’ academic performance. On the basis of these results, it is recommended that school education department should conduct seminars and training workshops to educate teachers about negative effects of violent practices they are using to improve students’ performance.

This study aims to examine the Role of Islamic Boarding Schools in Increasing Community Political Participation in the 2024 Election. In Jember Regency, the Election is an effort to convince and involve individuals in the political process. This is because there are symptoms of decreasing enthusiasm for community members' involvement in the election. The decrease in community enthusiasm is caused by the lack of political influence on the lives of the wider community. Many policies issued by the government are considered misdirected and inappropriate, only certain groups are directly influenced by these policies. Therefore, in the election process, the community is convinced through campaigns to involve the community in the political process and increase enthusiasm in the implementation of the election. The dynamics of political mobilization based on religious identity cannot be separated from the role of religious institutions and religious figures. In this case, the institution in question is the Islamic boarding school or better known as the Islamic boarding school, which is a traditional Islamic religious education and broadcasting institution in Indonesia. Life in Islamic boarding schools has a different cultural and traditional system from the lives of society in general, in Islamic boarding schools the students are educated with binding regulations. Traditional Islamic boarding school (Salafiyah) students tend to be unfamiliar with all forms of problems that are happening outside, because in this case, Salafiyah students are only involved in religious activities in the pesantren environment. Salafiyah students only get religious knowledge without being accompanied by general knowledge. This condition ultimately makes those from Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools emerge as religious leaders, or they will plunge into informal sectors. Along with the development of the times, Islamic boarding schools also have another side of life that is no less important, namely politics, therefore, as we have seen so far that in every important political momentum in the history of the nation, Islamic boarding schools are always involved (Ismail, 1999). The role of Islamic boarding schools today is also very clear. The most obvious example is the difficulty of the government to popularize programs if not through Islamic boarding school leaders. Another example is the number of political leaders approaching Islamic boarding schools, especially before the general election. The behavior of these leaders is right, if they do not approach Islamic boarding school leaders, it means that their political vision is low. The influence of the kiai is not only on the students in his pesantren, but also the community around the pesantren and can even go further. The absolute authority and power possessed by the kiai is often used by political forces (political parties) to gain support from the students and the surrounding community.

Inclusive Education is education that is open to all groups of people. Inclusive-based education in Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) is to serve all students of different backgrounds. Students in Islamic boarding schools are composed of different backgrounds and personal identities, as students with inclusive values. Adaptation with the school environment requires self-efficacy in religiosity and spirituality. Self-efficacy can provide encouragement to students enrolled in Islamic boarding schools. Self-efficacy is a feeling of success through possessed abilities to achieve individual life goals. Self-efficacy gives a positive psychological impact towards a person in their lives. Research results indicated that there is a need for guidance and counseling services that can increase the self-efficacy of students yet allow them to stand firm in their religiosity and spirituality. While peer abuse or physical violence in school is emphasized more, the physical and emotional violence caused by school staff has been emphasized less. The purpose of this study was to investigate the variables related to emotional and physical violence that students are exposed to in the school environment. This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted by applying a questionnaire to 434 fifth-grade students receiving education in the primary schools in Konak district of Izmir province. Being prepared by the researchers of this study, the questionnaire consisted of questions about the socio-demographic features of the child and the family, the place where the child has been raised, family income, average grade, and the emotional and physical violence of teachers, parents, and peers s/he has been exposed to within the last year. The Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, and logistic regression analysis were used for statistical analyses. The study group consisted of 214 (49.3%) female and 220 (50.7%) male students. Students reported that they were exposed to at least one type of emotional violence from 59.4% of teachers, 52.8% of parents, and 61.8% of children at school; they were exposed to at least one type of physical violence from 42.9% of teachers, 33.6% of parents, and 24.9% of children at school. While the rate of encountering with the beating of another child was 53%, the rate of watching this in television/cinema was 52.8%. Regarding exposure to at least one type of violence, males were found to be significantly more exposed to emotional and physical violence from male teachers, female teachers, and fathers and physical violence from children at school. The factors regarding the exposure to emotional and physical violence by teachers were evaluated using logistic regression analysis, and it was determined that the physical violence from teachers, emotional violence from children in school, and emotional violence from parents could predict the emotional violence from teachers. For males, physical violence from children in school and emotional violence from teachers could predict the physical violence from teachers. In this study, the determination of the tendency of togetherness of different types of violence applied to students from different people groups like teachers, parents, and children in school makes us think about the possibility of common risk factors in terms of violence exposure. The risk factors determined in this study may guide us in planning protective interventions aimed at violence.

This study investigates the influence of parental attachment on the independence of students in Islamic boarding schools, with a focus on understanding how this attachment contributes to the development of autonomy among adolescents. The research, conducted with 181 students aged 13-18 years, examines the relationship between parental attachment and student independence, employing a quantitative approach with data collected through the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) scale. The results demonstrate that parental attachment accounts for 10.4% of the variance in student independence, while the remaining 89.6% is influenced by other factors such as genetics, parenting styles, educational environments, and birth order within the family. The study highlights the critical role of parental attachment in fostering independence but also emphasizes the importance of a multifaceted approach to guidance and counseling that considers the complex interplay of various influences on student development. The findings suggest that counseling professionals should incorporate strategies that strengthen parental involvement, even in the context of limited interaction in boarding schools, through structured communication programs and family counseling sessions. Additionally, tailored counseling interventions that focus on building resilience, self-efficacy, and decision-making skills are essential for addressing the unique challenges faced by students in Islamic boarding schools. By integrating educational strategies with counseling practices, a supportive learning environment can be created that promotes critical thinking and autonomy. The study concludes that a comprehensive and holistic approach to guidance and counseling is necessary to effectively support the development of independent, resilient, and well-rounded students in Islamic boarding schools, maximizing their potential in both academic and personal spheres.
