Abstract

This research was conducted on the basis that the ability to understand mathematics is a very important ability for students to have, as a support for further mathematical abilities. One of the right choices to improve mathematical understanding skills is the use of a contextual approach. In online learning, the implementation of a contextual approach can be assisted by using ethnomathematical videos as a medium that can help students construct their knowledge. This study aims to determine the effect of an ethnomathematical video-assisted contextual approach on mathematical understanding and student motivation in online learning. The research method used is a quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. The learning outcomes during the three meetings showed that the contextual approach assisted by ethnomathematics videos had an effect on mathematical understanding and student learning motivation.
