Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Indonesia reached 64.2 million units and contributed 61.07% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). West Java Province ranks first with the largest number of MSMEs, including the Jatinangor area which is experiencing rapid growth of MSMEs along with its development as an educational area. However, most MSME players in this region face obstacles in business development due to low financial literacy and limited access to formal financing, such as the People's Business Credit (KUR). Bank Mandiri, as one of the largest KUR channeling banks, has developed digital innovations and strategic partnerships to increase the financial inclusion of MSME players. This study aims to analyse the effect of KUR facilities and financial literacy on the welfare of MSME actors, with business productivity as a mediating variable. The research method used is quantitative with a Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. Based on the results of the analysis of data obtained from MSME actors in Jatinangor, it was found that KUR and financial literacy have a direct and significant effect on productivity and welfare. In addition, productivity is proven to mediate the relationship between the two variables and welfare. The results of this study suggest that strengthening access to financing and improving financial literacy are key strategies in encouraging the productivity and welfare of MSMEs in a sustainable manner, especially in semi-urban areas such as Jatinangor.

This study aims to analyze the influence of digital transformation and financial literacy on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with disabilities in DKI Jakarta, with digital financial inclusion as a mediating variable. Primary data were collected from 30 respondents who are MSME actors with disabilities using questionnaires and analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The outer model test results confirmed the validity and reliability of the instruments. However, key findings from the inner model test indicate that digital transformation significantly and negatively affects both digital financial inclusion and the performance of MSMEs with disabilities. Meanwhile, financial literacy does not significantly influence either digital financial inclusion or the performance of MSMEs with disabilities. Digital financial inclusion was not proven to mediate the relationship between digital transformation and financial literacy on the performance of MSMEs with disabilities. The implications of this study indicate that the current digitalization efforts and financial literacy levels among MSMEs with disabilities in DKI Jakarta are not yet optimal or even pose challenges, thus failing to effectively enhance performance. This study emphasizes the urgency of more inclusive and adaptive assistance programs to ensure positive digital transformation implementation and optimized utilization of digital financial services for MSMEs with disabilities.

People's Business Credit (KUR) is one of the government programs that aims to support the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Indonesia. This program offers access to capital at low interest rates for MSMEs that require assistance in developing their businesses. This study examines the procedures and requirements for submitting KUR at PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) KCP Batanghari, as well as an evaluation of its implementation and impact on the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The primary focus of this study is to identify factors that influence the eligibility of MSMEs to receive KUR, as well as how this program supports the growth of the small business sector in Indonesia. The study's results show that, although the KUR program has made a significant contribution to supporting the development of MSMEs, challenges remain in its implementation. Several factors, including a complicated application process, a lack of understanding of the requirements, and limited information about the program, are the main obstacles. However, the success of payment restructuring and training for KUR recipients has shown a positive impact on the ability of MSMEs to develop. Therefore, evaluation and improvement of procedures, as well as further counseling, are needed for MSME actors to optimize the benefits of KUR for the MSME sector.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) serve as a cornerstone of national economic development by absorbing a significant portion of the labor force and promoting local economic growth. However, MSMEs continue to face various challenges, particularly in financial management and access to formal financing, such as the People's Business Credit (KUR) scheme. These issues are largely attributed to the low level of financial literacy among MSME actors, especially in terms of basic financial record-keeping and understanding the procedures for loan applications. To address these challenges, a community engagement program financial management empowerment for msmes through the BRI people's business credit program was implemented in Ridogalih Village, Cibarusah District. The program employed methods of socialization, simulation, and evaluation, aiming to improve participants’ comprehension of digital bookkeeping and the procedures for applying for business loans via Bank BRI’s online platform. The results indicate a significant increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in preparing simple financial reports, as well as their understanding of the digital application process for business financing. Moreover, the participants expressed a willingness to adopt digital bookkeeping as part of their business operations to meet financing requirements. This initiative is expected to foster greater financial independence among MSMEs, enhance their access to working capital, and support the sustainability and competitiveness of their enterprises in the long term

The Effect of Financial Literacy and Digital Finance Used on Financial Inclusion on MSMEs in Bandung City
 • Feb 10, 2021
 • Lira Mustika Sari + 2 more

This research is motivated by the important role and features of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in surviving the economic crisis and the high contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as when compared to large businesses. Even though it has a big role, MSMEs still have some problems, one of which is limitations on financial literacy. Limited literacy is a challenge in itself, considering that financial literacy can increase the ability to manage finances and access available financial products. In addition, this study also includes the used of digital finance variables because the 4.0 revolution has entered into everything that is digital-based. In addition, using these variables is also due to the emergence of optimism about the adopted telephone and internet. The used of digital finance in this study focuses more on payments produced by financial institutions and financial technology companies. The effects of these two variables on financial inclusion will then be examined considering their role in reducing the limited access to available financial services and thus encouraging economic growth. The city of Bandung is used as a research area. Bandung City was choosen because the large number of MSMEs and Bandung City MSMEs have their own characteristics. Based on the Dinas Koperasi dan UMKM Kota Bandung (2018), there are 5.242 micro businesses in Bandung City, 23 medium scale businesses, and 394 small-scale businesses so that the total number is 5.841 MSMEs. The research method used is explanative to explain the relationship between variables through purposive sampling so that 56 respondents were obtained. The purposive sampling technique using the following considerations: categorized micro, small and medium enterprises, business activities in Bandung city, and willing to provide the necessary information. In variable measurement, financial literacy is measured by knowledge related to finance and financial services, actions in making financial decisions, the ability to manage finances, tell financial concepts, and attitude in responding to financial related matters based on Bongomin, Munene, Ntayi, and Malinga (2017), Bongomin et al. (2016), Nkundabanyanga, Kasozi, Nalukenge, and Tauringana (2014), Kartawinata and Mubaraq (2018), and Sina (2017). Measurement the used of digital financial variable adapted based on Azam (2015), Zhou, Lu, and Wang (2010), and Qian, (2019) which consisted of perceptions of ease, benefits received, perceptions of used transfer activities, payments, and account management. Likewise financial inclusion, the measurement of which was adapted from Bongomin et al. (2017) and Bongomin et al. (2016) which consists of the ability to access financial services, using financial services, the quality of financial services, and the benefits obtained when using financial services. The data in this study are primary data with a questionnaire for further analysis using Partial Least Square (PLS). The Likert scale used in this study consists of 4 scales. The answer options strongly disagree are given value 1, disagree is given value 2, agree is given value 3, and strongly agree is given value 4 (Hermawan & Yusran, 2017; Martono, 2016). These four scales to reduce a neutral choice answers that do not show partiality towards positive or negative which results in a tendency not argue. PLS is used as a causality testing analysis tool due to the similarity of objectives with the research conducted and its used which can manage small amounts of samples. The minimum sample size in PLS is 10 samples on each line jalur (Abdillah & Hartono, 2015). In testing the hypothesis, a confidence level of 90 percent is used. Validity testing uses loading scores, AVE values, comparing indicator’s loading and cross loading, and comparison AVE roots with correlation. In this study also use reliability testing with composite reliability and KR-21 considering that the measurements carried out in the study were one measurement. The results show both variables have a positive influence and a very strong level of significance on financial inclusion. This result also supported by very strong evidence that can be seen through the p-value for each relationship. The results of the research prove that barriers to accessing these services can be minimized through increasing financial literacy so that can increase financial inclusion and be more developed. Therefore, a common problem experienced by MSME actors, namely low financial literacy, is a serious problem that can be overcome with training or coaching as consideration for solutions considering that financial literacy can open financial access to be more developed. Touching MSMEs with the used of digital finance will automatically open their ability to access available payment financial services and increasing financial inclusion.

Examining Sharia Financial Literacy And Capital Access For MSME Sustainability: A Mixed-Methods Study In East Kalimantan
 • Nov 7, 2025
 • AJIS: Academic Journal of Islamic Studies
 • Lukman Priyandono + 2 more

This research investigates the relationship between Sharia financial literacy, access to Islamic financing, and the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in East Kalimantan, Indonesia—a strategically important region experiencing accelerated development as the site of the country’s new capital. Adopting a mixed-methods design, the study integrates quantitative data from a survey of 300 MSMEs analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with qualitative evidence obtained through in-depth interviews with MSME actors, Islamic bankers, and regulators. The quantitative results indicate that the constructs of Access to Capital and MSME Resilience exhibit strong reliability and validity, while the Financial Literacy construct requires further refinement, highlighting that general financial knowledge does not necessarily translate into competence in Sharia-compliant financial products. Qualitative findings further identify a communication gap between MSME owners’ demand for accessible and practical financial guidance and the complexity of offerings provided by financial institutions. The study concludes that strengthening MSME sustainability necessitates policy interventions that address these gaps through targeted Sharia financial education and inclusive Islamic financing schemes. This research contributes a validated holistic framework and provides practical policy recommendations for the development of contextualized Islamic financial literacy programs and digital inclusion strategies to reinforce Indonesia’s Sharia-based MSME ecosystem.

An analysis of The Halal Certification Movement for MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) Actors: A Case Study on Halal Tourism in Kudus Regency
 • Feb 21, 2024
 • Journal of Islamic Economic Laws
 • Abdul Alimin Nafis + 2 more

Kudus Regency is one of the districts that has tourism potential in the field of halal tourism, where elements that support halal tourism include MSMEs, even though halal certification on MSME products is still minimally applied by MSME actors, especially those in halal tourism in Kudus Regency. The lack of knowledge is also one of the reasons why MSME actors and administrative procedures need to be better understood by MSME actors. This study aims to provide an understanding of the urgency of the halal certification movement for MSME actors in the halal tourism sector so that it is expected to create new jobs. This research uses a qualitative approach by interviewing ten people consisting of MSME actors, where the interview emphasizes the importance and understanding of Halal certification in MSMEs. The results of this study show that with Halal certification on MSME products, consumers increasingly trust and get guarantees from these products, so products that have Halal certification increasingly show that they are worthy of a massive market. The government, Halal Certification Companions, and stakeholders are advised to play a vital role in enhancing MSME participants' understanding of halal certificates for MSME products in halal tourism zones, according to this study.

The People's Business Credit Program is one of the government's programs to increase access to financing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which is channeled through financial institutions with a guarantee pattern. The financing distributed by people's business credit comes from banking funds or financial institutions that are people's business credit distributors. The funds provided are in the form of working capital and investment funds which are distributed to individual/individual MSMEs, business entities, and/or business groups who have productive and viable businesses but do not have additional collateral and also do not have good financial records. Even though the government has provided large MSME funds, the public is still unaware of people's business credit distribution. The people's business credit program is still the spearhead of government programs in efforts to expand access to financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises. The main aim of implementing this socialization is for the community to be able to develop their business into a bigger one, have business activities with good financial reports, and have no doubts about applying for people's business credit to the nearest state-owned bank to expand their business.

Based on the research carried out, it was concluded that the implementation of the people's business credit policy in developing small and medium enterprises in the Koto Baru sub-district of Dharmasaraya District had not fully run optimally. This is still found to be an inhibiting factor from the distribution of the people's business credit program, just as the KUR program which is intended for small and medium micro business actors can still be enjoyed by non-MSME actors, and also there are still people who use people's Business Credit funds instead intended for productive business. Another factor that inhibits the implementation of KUR in Koto Baru Subdistrict is the low participation of the people who utilize the KUR program, lack of information or ignorance of the public about the existence of the KUR program in Koto Baru Subdistrict, and there is a public perception that dealing with banks will be complicated and complicated. Later, the existence of a policy on People's Business Credit is very helpful for the people in the Koto Baru sub-district, Dharmasraya Regency.

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector has long been a significant driver of Indonesia's economy, drawing considerable attention from the government. According to the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), various strategic measures have been implemented to promote the growth and resilience of MSMEs as a means to enhance national economic independence. However, despite their substantial economic contribution, MSMEs' tax compliance remains low, as reflected in their minimal contribution to tax revenue. The small contribution is an indication that the level of compliance of MSMEs actors in fulfilling their tax obligations is still very low. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and began by analyzing and evaluating the policy of the People's Business Credit (KUR) distribution program in relation to tax aspects. The analysis and evaluation were based on data sourced from literature studies and interviews with relevant resource persons from the point of view of technical feasibility, economic and financial possibility, political viability, and administrative operability. The results show that the existing policy has not fully accommodated taxation aspects. This is unfortunate considering that the KUR interest subsidy provided by the government to MSMEs actors is financed by the State Budget (APBN), which is mostly sourced from taxes. Furthermore, the study proposes policy model to encourage the development of the MSMEs actors.

 • Bashar Younis Alkhawaldeh + 10 more

This research investigates the relationship between financial literacy, financial technology, financial behavior, and financial inclusion development in Jordanian MSMEs. Specifically, it seeks to examine whether financial behavior mediates the influence of financial literacy and financial technology on financial inclusion development. This study employs a partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach to investigate the relationship between financial literacy, financial technology (FinTech), financial behavior, and financial inclusion development in Jordanian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Based on a sample of 334 MSMEs in Jordan, the study found that financial literacy and FinTech have a significant impact on financial inclusion development in MSMEs. Additionally, financial behavior was found to mediate the relationship between financial literacy and FinTech on financial inclusion development. The findings of this study suggest that financial literacy and FinTech can be useful tools in promoting financial inclusion in MSMEs, and that financial behavior plays a crucial role in realizing their full potential. The study provides insights into the factors that influence financial inclusion in MSMEs and has implications for policymakers, financial institutions, and MSMEs in Jordan and other emerging economies. The use of PLS-SEM in this study provides a robust statistical approach for analyzing the complex relationships between the variables of interest. The scientific novelty of this study lies in its focus on the mediating effect of financial behavior on the relationship between financial literacy, financial technology, and financial inclusion development in Jordanian MSMEs. Keywords: financial behaviour, financial inclusion development, financial literacy, FinTech, partial least square structural equation modeling. https://doi.org/10.55463/issn.1674-2974.50.3.10
