Abstract

1. A new genus of sphenopsid fructifications is described from upper-middle Pennsylvanian coal balls. 2. Nuclei in the spores are described and illustrated. 3. The affinities of the new genus are discussed and the conclusion reached that the evidence points toward a closer relationship to the Sphenophyllales than to the Calamitales. 4. The morphological implications of the sterile bracts and sporangiophores are discussed with respect to their phylogenetic development.
