Abstract

A dull smile has social repercussions. Demand for improved and beautiful smile has become an integral part of dental procedures (AlOtaibi et al., 2020). A large number of people, especially young females are concerned of their smiles and this is because of the reason that the first thing people notice when meeting a new person is their smile (Alshamrani and Wahid, 2018). In the present era, patients are increasingly demanding for a perfect smile due to a shift in priorities and the impact of the media (Hatherell et al., 2011, Pretty et al., 2006).

Highlights

  • In obstetric practice, LSCS is reported to be the most common indication of blood transfusion (BT) as it may lead to severe intra-operative loss of blood

  • Tranexamic acid significantly reduced the quantity of the blood loss from time of placental delivery to 2 hours postpartum (P < 0.001) and from end of LSCS to 2 hours postpartum (P < 0.001)

  • A safe dose of tranexamic acid has an effective role in reducing blood loss during LSCS without causing adverse reaction

Summary

Introduction

LSCS is reported to be the most common indication of blood transfusion (BT) as it may lead to severe intra-operative loss of blood. 20% endure anemia, of that iron deficiency, folic acid deficiency, or both is the most common.[3] It is because of the fact that in pregnancy plasma volume is increased by 50%, red blood cells by 33%, and hemoglobin (Hb) by 18-20% mass. There is an increased demand of iron in the second half of pregnancy. All these physiological factors when combined leads to physiological anemia.[3]. This study was done to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TXA in reducing the blood loss after placental delivery following LSCS and record any adverse effects following its administration
