Abstract

Porcine circovirus type 2 is the primary causative agent of porcine circovirus associated disease which is characterised by acute systemic illness of the dam, abortion, mummified foetus, stillborn piglets or weak born piglets. The present study was conducted to investigate and better understand the presence of PCV-2 in the pig population in Mizoram. Detailed pathological examination on 18 aborted cases, 9 stillbirth cases and 5 neonatal cases revealed a significant gross lesions and histopathological findings. Based on Polymerase Chain Reaction analysis, 18.7% (6 out of 32 tissue samples collected from aborted, stillborn and weak born piglets) were found to be positive for the presence of PCV2.
