Abstract

Passively mode-locked pulses have been generated in a neodymium-doped fiber laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror. Theoretical analysis based on the reflection properties of the nonlinear optical loop mirror yields a good description of the observed spectral and polarization characteristics of the mode-locked laser.
