Abstract

With a parity conserving pseudoscalar interaction, invariant under color and weak isospin the proton is allowed to decay (in 2-body modes) only into even G parity mesons: i.e. the channels ϱ 0 e +, η e +, ϱ + ν . The decay into π and ω, which have negative G parity is forbidden. This is essentially the only way to prohibit single pion production in proton decay within a class of interactions discussed by Weinberg, Wilczek and Zee.
